Here at Moorland, we understand how important a professional
and friendly service is to you. That's why we always ensure we hand pick our
nursing staff to deliver the best service and advice possible.
Our nurses have a combined experience of over 40 years specialising in stoma and
continence care.
Beverley Hooley
I started my nurse career in 1972 as an orthopaedic nurse and became dual
qualified in 1977 on completion of my Registered General training.
After many years of service with the NHS in diverse areas of nursing (i.e.
orthopaedics, accident and emergency, general and colorectal surgery and
urology), I decided to combine my nursing skills with a move to the commercial
sector. Here I worked as a nurse advisor to an appliance contractor, allowing me
to provide nurse professionals and patients access to the wealth of knowledge I
have gained in order that their experience of using stoma care, urology and
continence equipment is trouble free.
I have attended many study sessions over my time in this position including the
Principles of stoma care, the Promotion of continence and the Management of
Incontinence.
I am married with four children and two West Highland white terriers who all
keep me busy in my spare time!
Rachel Shears
I qualified as a general nurse in 1984 and spent the next 10 years in a variety
of posts, developing a broad skills base in urology, general surgery,
orthopaedics and care of older people. I also spent some time as a volunteer
developing a healthcare facility in rural Africa, which developed my
problem-solving skills and made me very adaptable!
I then worked as a Community Nurse for 9 years in Salford, working as a District
Nursing Sister for 3 years. I gained valuable experience of working with people
with urological, continence and stoma care problems during this time and
completed a Nursing Degree.
I then worked for 3 years developing the role of Assistant Practitioners in
Salford and studied at night to gain a teaching qualification.
Since then I have worked in education and development in a large Manchester
teaching hospital, have nursed in a secure environment and have completed
training to undertake disability assessments.
I have brought a great deal of experience to Moorland and look forward
developing my specialist skills further and to supporting people to manage their
problems and maintain their independence.
Gillian Etchells
I started my career in social care in 1991 as a Home Help which helped people live independently by assisting them to live in their own homes. The role changed over the years and through volunteering for a project I then progressed on to become a Community Service Worker working with volunteers who were running day centres in the local communities. As demand for day centres became greater with changing criteria for older people’s services, I progressed to Day Centre Manager.
I enjoyed this role however whilst working at the day centres I became more involved with patients with a variety of conditions but felt that I had a lot more to offer. I therefore commenced a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care which I completed in January 2011.
In undertaking the degree I obtained a better understanding of patient care and I believe that the skills I developed through the course and the knowledge gained from my previous work experience will be beneficial in delivering an excellent service for patients.
I was recently appointed as an Assistant Practitioner to the Nursing Team with Moorlands. This job is very rewarding and I am looking forward to my future with Moorlands.
